Based on it’s size, location,
equipment and services rendered, the new Mgahinga Safari Lodge can be
considered to be a high-class Lodge.
The Lodge is situated on the
peninsula Mushungero on Lake Mutanda (approx. 15 km from Kisoro and 540
km from the capital Kampala) with a view at the Virunga Volcanoes.
Transportation to the Lodge is
by vehicle or airplane to Kisoro then a 40-minute boat ride, or by road,
that is boarded just 7 kms from Kisoro.
The Lodge complex consists of
one main building and 6 spacious safari tents/chalets.
The main building, which
houses the reception, restaurant, kitchen, office, bar, lounge and
public toilets is partly built on a wooden platform.
A large fireplace provides a
cozy and warm atmosphere during the cooler evenings and rainy seasons.
The tents/chalets are erected
on elevated wooden platforms that incorporate front verandas with easy
chairs and tables. Easy access to the tents is provided by means of
small staircases.
The tents are comfortably
furnished with 2 single beds, side tables, wardrobe, as well as a
two-seater lounge suite.
At the rear of each tent you
find the shower/toilet facilities, which are firmly built and are
equipped to European standards, e.g. toilet, shower cubicle with
aluminium frame and glass panels, hand-wash basin and mirror vanity
chest, etc.
To ensure the magnificent view
on the lake and the volcanic mountains, the entire Lodge complex has
been erected in a semi circle. For better protection, the main building
and tents are covered with natural mat roofing.
The water supply for the Lodge
is provided by means of pressure pumps, which pump the water from the
lake into large water tanks. The lake water is filtered and distributed
at controlled pressure to the outlet stations. Hot water is supplied by
means of conventional heaters.
Drinking water is supplied
separately.
The waste water purification
is carried out via a 3-chamber purification system. The normal refuse/garbage
will be taken care of by the local official refuse removal companies.
Electricity for the Lodge will
be generated by 2 Lodge-owned generators (220V / 50Hz Europlugs 2).
The Management consists of
European and African managers, and our guests will be looked after by
educated and experienced camp personnel.
A high standard of
international and varied cuisine will be served, as well as a variety of
local and international wines, malt and spirits are available.
